The Heinous Practice of Vani, Every culture is amalgamation of certain norms, values, customs and taboos. This culture collectively represent the mindset of the local population and their position in social life. Culture is the system or a way of life , which is shared by the large number of people. All the nation has its own culture, but it has two sides i.e bright and dark side. Same is the case with our culture. The practice of vani in Pakistan is one of the of the dark side of our culture.

The Heinous Practice of Vani

‘vani is derived from Pashto word “ vanny” which means blood. Vani has different name in different regions of Pakistan i.e sawara, sakh, sharam, khoon baha, sang chatti and in Englishh it is bloodshed. Vani tradition is an old age tradition.

This tradition start almost 400 years ago when two ‘pathan’ tribes of Mianwali fought a bloody war. During the war approximate 800 people were killed. At that time Nawab of Tank tried to solve the problem. He called the ‘jirga’ who decided that girls are given as a Qisas. Later on this become a custom which passed from generation to generation.
